Sculptural Pottery by Tammy L. (Quigley) Rosenow

Pottery Made With Passion

With a B.S. in Art Ed. from Kutztown, I designed paper products before I became an art educator. I later concentrated on ceramics at Penn State while working on my M.S. My two summers at Penn State began my passion for ceramics, slip-painting, and sculpture. The summer of 2026, I achieved Master Artisan status through the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman.

Stoneware Ceramics & Intent:

By blending slip-painting and sculptural elements into my wheel-thrown pottery, I express a narrative that reflects enduring passion for both living beings and their environments. My work seeks to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world and highlight the critical need for environmental stewardship to ensure its well being in the future.

“My pieces reflect my love for nature, the wheel thrown form, and my love for color.”

Wheel-thrown Ceramic Techniques:

My pieces begin with a wheel-thrown canvas. The techniques that I use on my ceramic pieces are:  slip-painting, sgraffito, subtraction, and sculpture. The slip-painted, sgraffito scenes, and sculptures are layered with a multitude of underglazes during the greenware and bisque stages. The scenes depict the habitat of the sculpture or subject matter on the ceramic piece. Glazing is the final stage for all my ceramics.
